Level Design: Ceilings and Columns!

Objective: Use what we’ve learned to complete the ceiling and add columns to our environment.

Now that we are used to manipulating our assets and creating prefabs, the next logical step would be to design the ceiling and add columns to our environment. This will complete the outline of the rooms and add some depth with the columns.

The quickest and easiest way to complete your ceiling is to duplicate the floor, rotate it, and place it at the ceiling height.

We may add details to the ceiling later, for now let’s create a folder to hold all the ceiling pieces.

We have a good base and can move on to work on some columns. Similar to how we did the walls I am going to assemble my columns and turn it into a prefab.

Now that it looks the way I want, we can place it against the wall and size it up to match the height.

Now turn this column into a prefab.

Now you can add columns throughout the layout.

This is starting to look more interesting. In the next tutorial we are going to make an archway and add more details to the ceiling. Remember, don’t be afraid to experiment with your assets and your layout. I’ll see you in the next tutorial!
